What performance opportunities do you offer your students?
Last week my music school Novar Music hosted our annual Spring Recital. This is a reasonably relaxed format in our formal end-of-year recital venue. There is no program and very few formalities. Primarily this performance opportunity is used by students to gain more performance practice in front of a smaller audience prior to our large end-of-year concerts, or before exams. It is also another chance for students to perform in a beautiful venue.
At Novar Music we have 12 teachers offering a variety of instruments and all of our performance opportunities are offered to each student. We had students perform on piano, violin, guitar and voice. In total 28 students performed in just under an hour.
I find it quite overwhelming seeing the progress students make throughout the year. Seeing the new, inexperienced performers blossom into confident musicians is an absolute joy. It always reminds me how much I enjoy being a piano teacher.
As a teacher, what serves to remind you of your purpose?
